Being among the first NGOs in Tanzania that fearlessly identified ourselves as feminists not only feminist but strong, empowered feminist, tracing this noble movement for change from a project called “Binti Jasirika” which is a Swahili word for a girl should be strong; that aimed at raising awareness on gender based violence to young girls aged 13-17. It was from this project that gave birth to Tanzania Feminist Initiative as a Non-Government Organization under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act, No. 24 of 2002 as amended 2005 and 2019 on 25th September 2019 with registration number 00NGO/R/0537.The vibrant young women came together, all with one common believe in positive change and aiming at making an impact on the systems in the society by eliminating patriarchy system that has always categorized women and young girls to belong in the private sphere.
The Organization operates in Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar.
• Empower women, girls and marginalized groups to defend themselves against
gender based violence and enhance gender equality.
• Promote Sexual and Reproductive Health Education to women girls and marginalized groups.
• To empower and provide non cognitive and entrepreneurship skills to women, girls and marginalized groups that will ensure sustainable development.
• Healing to the victims of Gender Based Violence through counseling and meditation.
